The brahmans count seven kinds of ஸ்நானம். or purifi cation: 1. வாயவியஸ்நானம், a purification by being covered with dust raised by the trampling of cows, and by the wind. 2. திவ் வியஸ்நானம், that produced by the sprinkling of rain in the sun-shine. 3. மனஸ்நானம், a purification of the mind by meditation. 4. மந்திரஸ்நானம், sprinkling of water on a sick person while hearing the Veda read. 5. பூமிஸ்நானம், sprinkling with dust from the vicinity of sacred trees, shrubs, &c., as ஆல், அரசு, துளசி, &c. 6. அக்கினிஸ்நானம், purification by applying the ashes of cow-dung. 7. யோகஸ்நானம், from fixed contemplation of the Yogi.
