It is of five kinds; 1. பிரமம், or வேதமோதல், reading and learning Vedas; 2. தெய்வம், or ஓமம்வ ளர்த்தல், kindling a sacrificial fire; 3. பூதம், or பலியீதல், fragments of food left at an oblation; 4. பிதிர், or தர்ப்பணமுடித் தல், presenting water to the manes of persons deceased; 5. மானுடம், or இரப் போர்க்குணவீதல், gifts to beggars.
