In sublimating medicines different tests are given accord ing to the number of வறட்டி, or pieces of dried cowdung used for the fire; as கா டைப்புடம், the quail-test with ''one piece;'' கவுதாரிப்புடம், the partridge, with ''three''; குக் குடபுடம், the fowl, with ''ten;'' வராகபுடம், the hog-test with ''twenty,'' or the greater; கன புடம், with, ''fifty;'' கசபுடம், the elephant-test with a ''hundred,'' or, as most say, ''one thous and,'' when all will be finished. There are also சூரியபுடம், exposure to the sun; தானிய புடம், purification of oils by placing them in grain; பூமிபுடம், or பூடம், of salts by plac ing them in the earth, in bottles.
