Dictionary Meaning of இலக்கணை

ஒருபொருளைக் காட்டற்கு உரிய கொல்லை மற்றொரு பொருட்குத் தந்து உரைப்பது. (நன்.269, விருத்.) Secondary significative capacity of a word, of three kinds, viz., விட்டவிலக்கணை, விடாதவிலக்கணை, விட்டும்விடாதவிலக்கணை;

[ilakkaṇai] ''s.'' Poetic license, an allowed deviation from rule in the use of language, இயற்பொருளின்சம்பந்தியையுணர்த்துவது. 2. A figurative word or phrase; it em braces three kinds; ''viz.'': 1. விட்டவிலக்கணை, this may be metaphor, personification or otherwise--as in ascribing the power, ac tions, &c. of animate beings to inanimate --as, மச்சுக்கூப்பிடுகிறது, the house (people of the house) calls. 2. விடாதவிலக்கணை, a metonymy--as, புளித்தின்றான், he has eaten tamarind; i. e. its fruit. 3. விட்டும்விடாதவி லக்கணை, a kind of paradox being in one view forced and unnatural--as சூரியனிரு ளைப்பருகிற்று, the rising sun devoured the darkness; i. e. dispelled it.
