Dictionary Meaning of ஆக்கப்பெயர்

இடுகுறியாக்கம்: காரணவாக்கம். (நன். 275, உரை.) Name or designation coined by an author, opp. to மரபுப்பெயர், of two kinds, viz., (a) arbitrary term, as முட்டை for Skanda; (b) term which, though connoting 'many' is however actually applied within a limited range, as பொன்னன்;

''s.'' Nouns or names given at pleasure, arbitrary signs differ ing slightly from the pure, இடுகுறிப்பெயர். It is of two kinds; ''viz.'': 1. இடுகுறியாக்கப் பெயர்; as முட்டை, though already an ar bitrary sign to denote an egg has yet the signification of Subramanian, as a name given to him subsequently by பொய்யாமொழிப்புலவர், at his own request. 2. காரணவாக்கப்பெயர்; as மலைமகண்மகன், the son of Parvati--the above Subramanian himself.
